As autumn comes to an end and winter is just around the corner, the days are getting shorter and the temperature is dropping, my thoughts turn to where in Europe I would like to live. I hate the long, cold, wet British winters. It’s time to move to a warmer, sunnier climate. I’ve started looking.

A whitewashed Spanish village by the coast

Mojacar in Spain on the Almeria coastline was sunny and 25 degrees today, according to the BBC. Almeria province is the desert region and the warmest part of Spain, all year round. Mojacar pueblo clings to the hillside back from the coast. It has pretty village houses and a thriving, bustling centre.

It stays open all year round for the many European Expats who live there. It has a thriving culture of bars, restaurants, shops, and cafe life. Spain has a culture of festivals and community events. The food is excellent. I love the fresh, locally-grown food markets, which Britain doesn’t have. And it’s close to the coast with access to the sea and great beaches.

Property prices are substantially lower than in Britain, so I could sell my apartment in the UK and buy a decent house in Spain. The UK property prices are high compared to Europe. We are an overcrowded Island with insufficient homes for the number of…
