It’s been under my nose all this time

Recently I have been obsessed with finding my writing voice in the hope that it will elevate what I write so more people will want to read it.

After reading Ayodeji’s article, how to consistently sharpen your writing skills, or, tips on finding your voice, which is what I’m interested in, I realised what I’m searching for has been under my nose all along.

My style is already unique. I read a lot of other writers on Medium, and nobody else writes as I do. The way I write directly, using a kind of flow state, is what I do best. And as I am currently writing a book too, with the first chapter written, I can see I get into a flow state. Once I am in it, an hour or two can go by and I glance at the clock and wonder where the time has gone. This is when I know I’ve been in a writing flow. A state of mind where I am oblivious to any and everything else happening around me.

It’s a state of mind that never happened very often during my career. But when it did, time simply flew by. I used to run training courses and it would happen while teaching too. In fact, it can happen during my private maths tutoring lessons too, if I have a motivated and engaged student. This is why I need a clock on the desk so I can tell how long I’ve been teaching. Otherwise, I would still be…
