You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems — James Clear in Atomic Habits

Atomic habits is a New York Times best-selling book and is a great read. You may have heard about it. Like all good books, James starts by telling his own personal story of a sporting accident, the trauma involved, and the long road to recovery. Here is where he learned about goals and habits.

As James says, goals focus on the destination, systems focus on the journey. The problem with focusing on some distant goal, especially if you have done what everyone suggests, which is thinking big, achieving your goal just seems like an impossible dream. There is no expectation, just hope.

The journey to achieving your goal, if you focus on making it enjoyable and doable, can become a positive aspect of your everyday life; something you look forward to doing and you get the satisfaction of progress.

Once you have a system for your goal, start building regular habits. Regular habits seep into our bodies and mind amazingly fast. In less than 30 days, your habits can become an automatic and regular part of your day. They can be so effective that you miss them if you skip them for a day.

Valuable habits that are worth your time
