How to improve your focus

And avoid the frustration of distraction

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a problem with focus. There are so many fascinating things that grab my attention and seem to be more exciting than what I’m working on in the present.

Let’s start by getting clear on what focus is

Focus can be defined as ‘the centre of interest or activity’. That just about nails it. And it’s also ‘pay particular attention to’. Focus is when there are no distractions and you are completely immersed in the activity. You are ‘in the moment’ and your mind isn’t thinking about something else.

But here’s the problem: we can usually maintain focus for a short period, but when it comes to longer projects or goal, there is a continual period of getting back into it, every time you want to get some more stuff done.

So it’s the ability to focus on bigger goals that is the real issue with most people, myself included. Focus happens when there is total immersion, and it’s usually easier if you enjoy what you are doing.

What external factors influences your focus?
