How to make discipline easier
A goal without discipline is an empty promise
I don’t find discipline hard. It’s rare if I don’t see difficult goals through to the end but I realise it’s difficult for most people. At least, that’s what they tell me. So I did a little introspection to see why I follow through.
What I discovered about myself when I’m disciplined
Let’s take a recent example. Before last Christmas, I contracted a nasty virus, which was complicated by a bacterial infection in my lungs. 6 weeks later, when it was all over, my health was in tatters: low energy, poor strength, terrible digestive system, feeling like crap every day, and my lungs were wrecked. One flight of stairs had me huffing and puffing.
So I put together a 5 point plan to restore my health with strength training, energy work, a change of diet, pro and prebiotics, and deep breathing. I set a goal to work every point every day. Occasionally I might miss one or two points for a day but would soon get back into the discipline of completing every point every day. It took 3–4 months, but the results were outstanding. My health is now better than it’s been in years.
The first thing I noticed is my health is my top priority in life. Nothing is more important to me. So I had a powerful reason or motivation to see it…
