Could it be the perfect workout routine?

Over the Christmas period and into January of this year I suffered from the worst viral infection I’d ever had and when it finally went it left me physically weak with very low energy. But I had a plan to restore my health. At the time I still had a gym membership so created a daily gym workout.

When the lockdown came and gyms closed, it was important to keep going with my workouts as they were really working. So I searched on YouTube and found a great calisthenics workout that didn’t need a gym. It develops strength using your body weight. Simple. It was brilliant.

The workout I used can be found here if you want to try it out. Google defines calisthenics as, ‘exercises that don’t rely on anything other than a person’s own bodyweight’. The workout I chose was 15 minutes long and had 8 different exercises. I did two complete cycles, which took 30 minutes.

What are the benefits of calisthenics over other workouts?

You don’t need expensive gym memberships. You can do it at home in a small space and it doesn’t have to take up much time in your day — great if you are very busy. Do we really need gym equipment to stay fit?

I'm obsessed with health and feeling good. Nutrition, sleep, exercise all play their part. But energy is fundamental to a healthy life.
