There is a lot of negativity around age

Old age is often seen as a downward spiral. It’s time to turn this story around and make it a positive spiral. Because it is.

I am in my 60s, and I have retired from the work-a-day world for good.

Sadly, as I watch videos, read articles, and listen to others, especially my peers, I keep hearing how we should do everything now before it’s too late, or think about long-term care, or we must make a will, and if we move home, make sure the medical system is available for us.

It’s not that the advice is wrong, it’s that it has the wrong focus. This is a time — in my humble opinion — to be thinking about an exciting new future, full of opportunities to learn, experience, and enjoy our lives. It’s not a time to organise our own funerals, or think about our future care should we become infirm. It’s time to live life anew.

I see retirement as a new phase of my life, with lots of new experiences, and time to enjoy what this wonderful planet we live on has to offer. I plan on enjoying these experiences for many decades to come.

But what if you fall ill? What about your medications? I hear you.
