We often forget that true mastery of any skill is about repetition. So many educators and advisers wax lyrical about the myriad techniques for mastering skills. Sometimes, there is so much advice, we don’t know what to do first. But there is always one technique that works like gangbusters. Repetition.

The memory of and competence of any skill is subject to the forgetting curve. This is an exponential curve where the ability to execute the skill slowly ebbs away over time. Spaced repetition is the way to counteract this forgetting and solidify your learning and abilities with practice.

For example, I practice deep breathing exercises every morning. It only takes 10 minutes but keeps my lungs in great shape. And I am about to start a minimum of 30 minutes of daily dictation practice to speed up my writing output. I look forward to getting good results.
