What’s the hardest thing about writing?
IMHO, it’s building an audience
I have a lot of respect for one of Medium’s most successful writers, Tim Denning. I find myself drawn to his articles and reading them often. More, I think, than any other writer on this platform.
And looking at his statistics, I would say he has ‘cracked the code’ when it comes to building an audience of readers and fans or his writing. How has he done it? I’ve just read, what I think, is the best article he has written to date. It’s called, ‘how to turn unprofessional writing into a 6-figure business at any age’ It answers all the questions in my mind.
Surely there is a lot more to learn about writing?
Yes, indeed there is. But in my opinion, it’s not difficult to learn them all. The mechanics of writing is learnable. In my school days and for most of my career, I was a maths and science geek, and a professional engineer. English was one of my worst subjects. It found English literature completely unintelligible. Erudite discussions on Shakespeare's works went right over my head. It was like reading Egyptian hieroglyphics to me.
And I don’t even remember learning grammar, spelling, sentence construction, and all of the important rules of writing. I just remember getting bad marks in tests and exams. But I have always…
